Numismatics is the study or collection of currency including coins, paper money, and related objects. Numismatists are students or collectors of coins. The term numismatist applies to collectors and coin dealers as well as scholars using coins as source or studying coins. Coin collecting may have existed in ancient times. In ancient time coins were collected by emperors. Numismatics is called the "Hobby of Kings", due to its most esteemed founders. There are few Professional societies of numismatics like Royal Numismatic Society, American Numismatic Society Some other areas of currency collection. Exonumia is the study of coin-like objects such as token coins and medals, and other items used in place of legal currency. This includes elongated coins, encased coins, badges, counterstamped coins, wooden nickels , credit cards, and other similar items. Notaphily is the study of paper money or banknotes. It is believed that people have been collecting paper money for as long as it has been in use.
